Eight of the nine new medical institutions in Uttar Pradesh, built with a Rs 2,319 crore investment and just inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have names that are chosen with local caste and religious dynamics in mind. The government had intended to name a new Aligarh institution after Jat King Mahendra Pratap Singh, only two months before this attempt at social engineering. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened nine medical institutions in Uttar Pradesh on October 25, strengthening the state’s medical infrastructure.
Mr Modi practically inaugurated the medical colleges from Siddharthnagar. While eight medical universities have been approved under a Central Sponsored Project for the Corporation of New Medical Colleges Associated with District or Referral Hospitals, the one in Jaunpur has been declared operational by the State government utilizing their funds. The project intends to expand the availability of health professionals, address the existing geographical imbalance in the distribution of medical colleges, and properly utilize the existing infrastructure of district hospitals. Names have been given and selected after proper research work.
Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel, and Union health and family welfare minister Mansukh Mandaviya were also present at the inaugural ceremony at Siddharthnagar. Some of these institutions have been recognized as part of the Centre’s “development of new medical colleges affiliated with district and referral hospitals” initiative. The government of Uttar Pradesh on the other hand has made the medical college at Jaunpur operational with its funds.
