Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, India’s first homegrown vaccine against Covid-19, was recognized by Guyana on Tuesday. On a positive note, the Indian High Commission in Guyana stated that this is a significant step forward in the two countries’ post-COVID partnership. A person is deemed ‘vaccinated’ if they have received at least one dose of any of the vaccines, according to the country’s rules.
The Indian High Commission in Guyana used Twitter to say, Guyana has recognized India’s indigenous vaccine Covaxin, marking a major step forward in India and Guyana’s post-Covid collaboration. Passengers must provide a vaccination card from a recognized facility that includes the name of the vaccine, the date it was administered, and the batch number.
Novavax Covid-19 vaccine receives first emergency use authorization
Travellers who have received the vaccine are permitted admission into the country. The Indian vaccine certificate has been authorized by five more countries, including Australia. The Covaxin vaccine has not yet been licensed by the European Union, the United States, or the United Kingdom. With Australia’s clearance of Covaxin, the COVID-19 vaccine developed in India now has 11 countries on board. Most countries are allowing fully vaccinated (Covaxin) travellers to enter without a 14-day quarantine requirement.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Friday, October 29 that the Indian government is closely monitoring the WHO’s deliberations on Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL). Shringla said the approval for the India-made COVID-19 vaccine “should be issued soon” while responding to a question during a media conference on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tour to Italy and the United Kingdom.
Krishna Ella, chairman and managing director of Bharat Biotech, said that the basis for developing the inactivated virus vaccine was well-established, as opposed to the novel technology of mRNA vaccines. In recent weeks, the TGA has obtained additional information demonstrating that these vaccines provide protection and potentially reduce the likelihood that an incoming traveller will transmit COVID-19 infection to others while in Australia or become acutely ill as a result of COVID-19, according to the official statement. The vaccine sponsor and/or the World Health Organization have given the TGA supporting data.
