Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu responded to Senior advocate APS Deol on Sunday, a day after he accused him of interfering with the functioning of the AG government and office and spreading misinformation. Mr Sidhu’s attack is believed to be the latest in the ongoing war of nerves between him and the Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi. Both leaders visited the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand last week to demonstrate a united front. But shortly after his return, things seem to have returned to point one.
Days after Mr Channi was appointed Chief Minister in September, Mr Sidhu announced his resignation as President of the State Congress without giving any reason. Earlier this week, he withdrew his resignation, stating that he would return to the office the day the state has a new Director-General of Police and an Attorney General Mr Sidhu’s last testimony came the day after Mr Deol accused him of spreading misinformation. “There is a concerted attempt by vested interests to malign the functioning of the Congress Party in view of the upcoming elections in Punjab to gain selfish political gain by politicizing the constitutional office of the Punjab Advocate General,” Deol said.
Mamata Banarjee: Congress is an “unreliable” ally that had compromised with the BJP
Through a series of tweets, Mr Sidhu said on Sunday: “Mr AGPunjab, Justice is blind, but the people of Punjab are not. Our Congress Party came to power with a promise to give justice in sacrilege cases, in which you appeared before the High Court for the main conspirator/accused persons and made serious allegations against our government.”Further, you specifically prayed for transferring the investigation to CBI as you were afraid of their false implication in sacrilege cases on accounts of mala fide, malice and ulterior motives on the part of the political party in power in the State of Punjab. Today, you are representing the same Government of the same political party in power and accusing me of spreading misinformation,” said Mr Sidhu.
