On Thursday, Bolly-star Kangana Ranaut once again sparked outrage by claiming that India won true freedom in 2014 when the Modi-led government took office and referring to the nation’s 1947 freedom as “bheek” or alms. The actress, renowned for making outspoken and frequently incendiary comments, was once again the subject of controversy and outrage, this time from lawmakers and a slew of social media users and others outraged by her remarks at an event on Wednesday evening.
On Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police Department, requesting that the actress be charged. Preeti Sharma Menon, a member of the AAP’s national executive committee, called the actress’s comments “seditious and inflammatory.”

In another tweet, Menon stated that they had filed an application with the Mumbai Police Department, seeking that the actress is prosecuted for her utterances under Indian Penal Code Sections 504, 505, and 124A. Anand Sharma, a senior Congress lawmaker, called star Kangana Ranaut’s words outrageous and suggested the President should revoke her Padma award.
He further demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak up and say whether he agrees with such viewpoints, failing which the government should pursue legal action against Ranaut. Ranaut sparked outrage on Thursday when she called India’s 1947 freedom “bheekh” and argued that perhaps the nation only gained its independence when the Modi-led government took power in 2014.
“Prime Minister should break his silence and tell the nation if he endorses the views of Ms Ranaut. If not, the government should take appropriate legal action against such people,” Sharma, a former union minister, announced on Twitter. Kangana Ranaut’s future film appearances include Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda, Emergency, Dhaakad, Tejas, Aparajita Ayodhya, and The Incarnation: Sita.
