The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the midst of the Cabinet trying to prepare to repeal the farm laws in its next meeting on Wednesday. The letter urged PM Modi to resume talks on its six demands consisting of the legal guarantee to the procurement of crops at Minimum Support Price(MSP)
The SKM mentioned in its email to the PM how he appealed to them to go back to their homes and they also want to go back and join their respective families after resolving the pending issues. If he wishes the same, then the government should immediately resume talks with the SKM on the six issues. He also mentioned that till then, the Morcha will continue this movement. SKM also mentioned in the mail that they welcomed the PM’s announcement about the Centre’s decision to rescind the three farm laws and the farmers now want his government to fulfill the promise as soon as possible. Detailing six demands which comprise three new demands, the SKM added how he must be familiar that the repeal of the farm laws is not the only demand of this movement. From the very beginning of the talks with the government, the farmers had raised three additional demands.
The demands of SKM include a legitimate guarantee to MSP, repeal of Electricity Amendment Bill, scrapping of provisions of fines for stubble burning in the Commission for Air Quality Management law, withdrawal of cases against farmers reported during the protests in different states, and arrest of junior home minister Ajay Kumar Mishra due to the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, and compensation of 700 farmers who died during the protests and allowance of a site at Singhu Border to set up a memorial for them. The new demands have risen due to the events that happened during the protests during the past year.
