A cabinet minister in the Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi-led administration condemned state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday for “creating divisions” within the party. Shocked by Sidhu’s statements at a rally on Saturday, Minister for Technical Education Rana Gurjeet Singh named him a “political mercenary”. The minister also implicated Sidhu in challenging the allegiance of the “true and traditional Congressmen” and announced that he enlisted in the party just to become the chief minister. Rana also asserted to beware and mind his language while talking about a true Congressman. “You are just like a mercenary having joined the party just with the sole purpose of becoming the Chief Minister, while I have been in the party right from my birth,” declared Rana, while reacting to Sidhu’s comments about him brought at Sultanpur Lodhi on Saturday.
Sidhu ends up having his way, as A-G Deol’s resignation gets accepted
The senior Congress leader doubted the motives of Sidhu in defying his administration and the Chief Minister, telling him he has now been exposed. “You have been openly denouncing our Chief Minister as you have started feeling jealous and insecure about his popularity among the masses”, Rana explained to Sidhu and instructed him against undermining the party by trying to build divisions and rifts. This announcement comes after Sidhu initiated an attack on Captain Amarinder Singh and Rana explaining “I was made to sit at home. Who did that? It was Captain. Did anyone think that Captain could have been removed? He expected the doors to be shut on me. Captain, just watch me. I am standing on the land of Guru Nanak. The Guru has halted the tenure of Rajas and Ranas.”Sidhu had in the past also disputed the induction of Rana in the ministry but Rana had so far resisted reacting to the public attacks.
