Working President and sitting Goa Congress MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco stated the grand old party lacks energy and excitement in its struggle against the BJP only hours after quitting from the party. Lourenco is set to start at the TMC tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, the Goa Congress has been in shock because Rahul Gandhi of the Congress persuaded him not to leave the party a month ago. He has also assured a Congress ticket when the names were revealed in the first list two days ago. The Congress is facing a crisis in Goa ahead of next year’s assembly election, with several leaders joining either the Trinamool Congress (TMC) or Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – the two parties seeking to gain a foothold in the coastal state. Aleixo Reginald Lourenco said in an exclusive interview after arriving in Kolkata on Monday that the TMC can address local Goan issues and has done so in a short period of time.

“Trinamool Congress has a better stage and influence,” he added. He also stated that Congress and the TMC are two of the country’s most powerful opposition groups. He refused to answer questions when asked if party infighting was to blame for his resignation. Lourenco made up his mind after not being allowed a free hand within the party, according to sources close to him, and communicated his intention to join the Trinamool Congress to his closest followers after midnight on Monday at 1:30 a.m. The resignation is viewed as a significant blow for the Goa Congress. He was a youth leader with widespread appeal. According to a recent ADR study, the three-time MLA was regarded as the best performing MLA in the Goa legislative assembly. He had submitted the most number of questions (1,202) against the BJP government.
