Resident doctors who have been urging to accelerate the NEET PG counseling hearing will march towards the Supreme Court of India on Monday. The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association India (FORDA) has invited resident doctors from across the states to volunteer in the protest. The “overworked and exhausted resident doctors” have revolted in front of Nirman Bhawan, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), New Delhi for five consecutive days, and “yet the authorities have failed to take any concrete measure in the concerned matter,” FORDA asserted in an official statement. The doctors are urging a fast-track court hearing and to accelerate NEET PG 2021 counseling and subsequent admission process. Resident doctors had originally called for a nationwide strike a month ago on November 27.
The resident doctors who wrote the exam are expecting their counseling and admission process to begin. The counseling process which was planned to start on October 25 has not commenced yet. Doctors allege that the wait is leading to exhaustion. Initially, a delegation from FORDA had met the Health Minister in which the minister had assured them that the case will be spoken of in the court for an early hearing. The SC is adjudging the feasibility of having Rs 8 lakh as a cap to give the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota. The SC, in the last hearing, had implored the government to set a committee and take a different look at the issue. The counseling is postponed till a final ruling has been reached on the same. If the limit is altered, this would make more/fewer students will be eligible to avail of the reservation. The Modi government has initiated a 10 percent quota in medical colleges under the All India Quota (AIQ) for students from economically weaker sections of society.
