Despite the State Election being scheduled for 2023, the Municipal Election has already spiced up the political scene. TMC alleges that its candidates are threatened every day. According to the party, its candidate for the 48th ward house was attacked. Tripura’s municipal elections are scheduled for November 25th, but the political temperature is already hot. This would be TMC’s first litmus test outside of Bengal. They would be fielding candidates for all Agartala Corporation positions.
TMC, on the other hand, claims to be having difficulties in Tripura ahead of the elections. TMC alleges that its candidates are intimidated daily. Their candidate for the 48th ward house was attacked, according to the party. “They have become hyena, they are dangerous, they are attacking our women candidate, but people have understood them, and they will go,” Subal Bhawmick, leader of Tripura TMC, stated.
Mamata Banarjee: Congress is an “unreliable” ally that had compromised with the BJP
While Congress and the Left have dropped their candidacies in several regions, the TMC is still standing. On Thursday, Susmita Dev, TMC Rajyosabha MP, sat with party officials in front of Tripura police headquarters. Susmita said, “Police here is Dhritarashtra, we have lodged hundreds of complaints, but the police here is a mute spectator; we will sit here only.”
On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said, “The problem is they are now trying to find complain only because they know they will not win. When they will be defeated, they will have to show some reason, right? We are not bothered, we will win we know.”
Abhishek Banerjee is scheduled to visit Tripura before the election and have a meeting just before the municipal elections. Though the state election is scheduled for 2023, the municipal election in Tripura is also attracting quite the attention.
