Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s statement on Saturday that the center will begin vaccinating youngsters aged 15 to 18 and allow “precautionary doses” for healthcare and frontline workers beginning next year has sparked a rush among some key opposition leaders to take credit. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organizer Arvind Kejriwal, Maharashtra Minister of Tourism and son of Chief Minister of State Udhav Thackeray Aaditya Thackeray, and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra all attempted to imply that PM Modi “accepted their suggestion.”
In three major announcements on Christmas Day (December 25), as well as the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, PM Modi stated that the federal government will expand vaccination coverage and allow for a third booster dose for select groups in response to the growing threat posed by the highly transmissible Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, expressed his delight at the announcement. “I am happy the Prime Minister today announced a booster dose for frontline employees,” he tweeted, tagging his prior article. “In Delhi, 99 percent of people took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 70 percent took the second shot,” Kejriwal remarked on December 20. The central government is being encouraged to allow those who have received both doses to receive a booster dose. We have the necessary infrastructure in place. Mitra had mentioned the booster dose on December 20.
“It’s about time the government considered booster shots for the elderly,” he tweeted. According to studies, two doses of Covishield only prevent 30 percent of people against Omicron fatalities, whereas the booster protects 88 percent of people. We don’t want another summer like the one in 2021.
