Hema Malini, a veteran actress, and Maharashtra MP objected to a fellow MP’s usage of her ‘cheeks’ as a metaphor for how he wanted his constituency’s roadways to appear. Gulabrao Patil, Maharashtra’s water supply and sanitation minister spoke at a political gathering on Sunday about the development plans he has for his area. He stated that he desires roads as smooth as Hema’s cheeks. While he later apologized for the statement, Hema noted in an interview with news agency ANI, “Better I keep my cheeks properly, safely. Waise karna nahi chahye (Such statements should be avoided).” The well-known actress went on to say that she might have disregarded the remark if it had been made by a member of the public, but that it was made by an MP. She stated, “But if it is a Member of Parliament or anybody connected to our constituency (who says it), I don’t think it is in good taste. Any woman should not be used for saying (such things).” She further stated that Lalu Prasad Yadav, the previous Chief Minister of Bihar, established the “pattern” of such remarks. “A trend of such statements was started by Lalu Ji years ago and many people have followed this trend. Such comments are not in a good taste,” Jie added.

Patil then informed the reporters in Dhule that he never intended to offend anyone or be disrespectful to a lady in his words. “I did not mean to hurt anybody. I apologize for the comments. I belong to the Shiv Sena that idolizes Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Party founder Balasaheb Thackeray has taught us to respect women,” he said. Rajendra Gudha, the state minister of Rajasthan, made a similar remark about actress Katrina Kaif last month. At a public meeting in the state’s Jhunjhuni region, he declared, “Roads should be made like Katrina Kaif’s cheeks.” In politics, making sexist remarks about Bollywood women is nothing new. In reality, many actresses who have gone on to become successful politicians are frequently subjected to insulting words by male politicians. Smriti Irani, Jaya Prada, and Jaya Bachchan are just a handful of the celebrities who have been the target of similar accusations in the past.
