2022 Punjab State elections are just around the corner and all the parties have been working hard to turn the voters in their favor. While rallies by different parties have become a routine in Punjab, with political candidates taking shots at their adversaries, coalitions between parties can also be seen. One such coalition has been formed between the ruling Punjab Lok Congress and the central government rulers BJP. With this coalition, BJP is seemingly aiming at making its presence stronger in the upcoming Punjab elections. It is noteworthy that before this, BJP was in another coalition with yet another strong party in the Punjab election scene, named Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

However, SAD had a bigger and more dominant role to play in the coalition. It can be proven by the fact that during the 2017 Punjab Assemble elections, BJP only got 23 seats to contest on out of 117 total seats in the Punjab assembly. Out of those 23, BJP managed to win only 3 seats. With such a dismal performance and suffering from SAD’s monopoly in the coalition, BJP made this move. With this move, not only is the BJP making its presence more known and stronger in Punjab, but also they are eyeing to contest a larger number of seats. Due to the nationwide boycott of the farmer laws, BJP leaders were boycotted severely by the people of Punjab. However, since they have taken back the laws, BJP leaders are coming out to mark a fresh start with the Punjab Assembly elections.
