The island of Bali has been opened by the authorities for international tourism. However, it has been reported that in the last 2 months, only 2 foreign tourists have visited the place. Just a couple of years ago, in October 2019, Bali was crawling with international tourists. Once a favorite tourist spot of the foreigners, this time the tourism has been badly hit due to the pandemic. On top of that, the Omicron variant has made things even worse. Now, the restrictions seem to increase even more. Places like Thailand’s Phuket and Vietnam’s Phu Quoc have been allowing fully vaccinated tourists with relative ease. However, entering Bali has been a very strenuous task for foreign nationals. Apart from being fully jabbed, tourists need to have international health insurance, must have applied for a visa with a local sponsor, and a 10-day quarantine.

However, if the COVID cases seem to dwindle in the region, the authorities might very well ease up the restrictions on international tourism in Bali giving it a major boost. The reason behind Indonesia’s highly strict approach towards preventing the pandemic is very much due to the outbreak that happened this year during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations that claimed the lives of 140,000 people. While in October 2019, Bali welcomed nearly 500,000 tourists. However, this year has seen a massive scarcity in tourist influx. This has also affected the hotel and hospitality businesses in the region very badly. Now the hotel owners are hoping that the upcoming G20 meeting will bring in more and more international tourists in the region of Bali.
