Any profession an individual pursues affects him for the rest of his life, but for BJØRN, not one profession would satisfy his need to succeed as an artist.
Who is BJØRN?
BJØRN, also known as Gabriel Bodas, was born in New York on July 15, 1999. He adopted the name BJØRN, meaning Bear in Norwegian, because it stands for strength and resilience. Qualities all of us need to succeed, regardless of the path we choose.
And true to his name, BJØRN is a man of many talents, but to succeed he must strengthen them, rework them, and broaden his range, so no matter what the circumstance and opportunity, BJØRN is ready. But who inspired BJØRN to grasp the path of theater and film acting?
Inspiration from Leonardo DiCaprio
In 2012, BJØRN’s tutor changed his life. His tutor asked him what he wants to be when he grows up, and without hesitation, he answered, “I want to be a film actor like Leonardo DiCaprio.”
“Well, how are you going to pursue this career?” she asked. BJØRN couldn’t answer. She then asked, “Are you taking any acting lessons and have you acted on stage?” He responded with “Umm, no, I never thought about how I was going to get there.”
“BJØRN, if you want to be the next Leonardo DiCaprio, you need to start now. The acting industry is a cut throat business and the more experience you have the better prepared you will be for that stand out role.”
At this very moment BJØRN knew what he had to do to pursue his dream.
Taking First Steps to Success
When he began his first year in middle school, BJØRN started to ask around how he can be involved in the school play. While he was discovering how to be in his first production, coincidently he discovered that the play director from his school was his old music teacher from elementary school. Once BJØRN discovered this, he then spoke to his teacher and later auditioned for his first production called Greece.
BJØRN then borrowed The Best American Plays from the library. He read and reread the plays that were made into movies. He thought this would be useful seeing actors perform the role even if the medium wasn’t theater.
He also looked for theater performances on YouTube. Then he gave it a try. He videotaped himself. Then he critiqued himself, and then re-recorded and asked friends to comment.
Auditions and Progression in the Acting Career
During this time he sought out auditions. He threw himself into the process.
BJØRN auditioned for school plays and musicals. He began his acting career with the ensemble and understudy of Sony in Greece, which led to the larger roles in Little Shop of Horrors, 9 to 5, Almost Maine, Can’t Take This With You, and finally his favorite role, Cornelius Wyatt in the many plays of Edgar Allen Poe.
With each role, BJØRN developed his acting skills and technique. He did this by reading the script and studying his lines multiple times throughout each week. He also looked at plays on YouTube, to study how other actors did the same role and how he can use it to his advantage.
And this was just the beginning of his education in theater.
Education and Private Acting Lessons
BJØRN applied to college and as a freshman in college, BJØRN enrolled in private acting lessons with HB Studio. There, one learned the anatomy of acting. Acting techniques such as Meisner & Hagen.
In addition to his lessons, BJØRN learned how to memorize lines and audition properly. Currently, BJØRN is studying acting at SUNY Purchase to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Theater & Performance. As well as looking for an acting agency to have representation. Besides this, he is accepting acting gigs on websites such as backstage and actors’ access.
BJØRN – Adding More Feathers to the Cap
To complement BJØRN’s acting, he is also an upcoming dj/music producer.
In the year 2015, he began his career at the age of fifteen by performing at multiple events such as sweet sixteen’s, weddings, clubs, etc. This was an incredible experience for him since he was able to network himself by communicating with customers and business owners who worked in the entertainment industry.
He is currently djing at some club venues in locations such as White Plains, New York, Stamford, Connecticut, and many other locations. He made his first record signing last year with Blanco y Negro record label with hot single called “When It Comes to You”, which can access on platforms such as Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, and Apple Music.
Currently, he is working with many other artists around the world and has produced over ten songs. BJØRN is striving to pursue his dream of one day djing around the globe.
