There is an aviation boost in the Northeast with Arunachal Pradesh all set to get a new Airport in Hollongi. The airport is situated about 15 km away from Itanagar and will help in connecting the state by air. The proposed Greenfield Airport in Hollongi is designed for operations of the A-320 category of aircraft as well as a future extension of the Runway by 500 meters length to cater to the A-321 type of aircraft.
The all-new Greenfield airport is being built with an estimated cost of INR 645 crore. This cost includes various development works like construction of airport pavements, terminal Building, airside work, and city side works. The airport is being built to accommodate 200 passengers during peak hours of the day. With an area of 4100 sqm, the airport is going to have eight check-in counters. The airport is also going to be equipped with all modern facilities for passengers.
The airport should be ready for operation on August 15, 2022, and according to reports, 80 percent of the airside work is already complete. The terminal will be an energy-efficient building with Rain Water Harvesting System, and a sustainable landscape. The airport will also have a medical center, fire station, among other things.

The interior of the building is designed to emanate a sense of calm to the flyers by providing free-flowing spaces, a hidden service core as well as a glass facade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid emphasis on transforming the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh into a major gateway to Southeast Asia by developing modern infrastructure across the state, the report added.
