BJP won all of the 51 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation. They have formed a board without the opposition for the first time in history. Agartala was washed away with saffron colors. In the three months leading up to the poll results, TMC had been relentlessly attacking BJP with allegations of harassment and violations. The Saffron Party is running ahead of the TMC.
The voting was scheduled as per the orders of the Supreme Court. Massive security forces were deployed to maintain security and discipline and ensure a safe and smooth voting process. BJP has declared the election results to be fair and a “mandate of the people.” However, such a result has proved to be quite worrying for the TMC camp. Despite that, the TMC still remains a steady competitor to the BJP camp. They came to Tripura only four months ago and have managed since then to climb up to the second spot. They are the opposition to BJP in Tripura now.
Dr. Sukanta Majumadar, the West Bengal BJP President tweeted about the win, “Congratulations to all the Karyakartas of @BJP4Tripura and CM Shri @BjpBiplab for a landslide victory in Tripura Municipal elections. People of Tripura have trusted BJP and have rejected the opposition parties including TMC. The TMC’s fake drama didn’t make any impact on people.”
Where does TMC stand?
TMC has taken the loss in good stride. They have just begun their political journey in Tripura. The party was able to secure a single-seat win at Ambassa municipality where they came 2nd winning 10 out of 15 seats and in Teliamura they stood second as well winning 13 wards out of 15. According to the analysts, the work done by TMC has been non-compromising. TMC might have an advantage against BJP in 2023 without the presence of an opposition.
