Anime is classified into several categories. The most prevalent is action and romance. But there is one type of anime that is gradually becoming the most popular. In reality, other anime genres frequently use a high school setting. And why shouldn’t they? After all, the majority of anime enthusiasts are adolescents. As a result, it is understandable that anime creators strive to create films and series that appeal to their target demographic. We’ve watched a lot of fantastic adolescent anime over the previous decade, so picking the best anime of all time was a challenging process. We still gave it our all. Here is a list of the greatest high school anime of all time. Many of these are available on Crunchyroll, Netflix, or YouTube.
Best School Anime (Must Watch High School Anime)
SCHOOL RUMBLE
By today’s standards, School Rumble is an old-school classic. Produced in the early 2000s. Even now, the comedy is still enjoyable, and the characters are believable. Tenma is an airhead and a simpleton, yet he has a great heart and makes the humor come alive. And then there’s Harima, a manga artist who grows up after being a delinquent in his previous life. He also adores Tenma. Misunderstandings, wacky comedy, character development, and plot twists abound. And with two seasons and a third in need of adaptation.
HYOUKA
Hyouka is a representation of the mundane activities that students might engage in at school. Except that Hyouka makes even the most “boring” subjects exciting and amusing. The main characters transform the stupidest sh*t into mini-investigations in which they all collaborate to explore and discover the truth. One character, Eru Chitanda, is inquisitive, and the other, Oreki, is the mastermind. Hyouka is one of the finest anime by Kyoto Animation. And it has a unique narrative that not many anime do. Especially not in the same manner.
RELIFE
ReLife is about being given a second shot at life. And the ability to restart from scratch. That is, in a nutshell, what this anime is about. The main character, Kaizaki Arata, is a NEET who is struggling financially in life. In addition, he despises his work ethically. He encounters a man who can offer him a “magic” drug that allows him to relive and restart his life — 10 years younger (18-19 years old). As you might expect, the episodes are heavy on life lessons, personal development, and self-improvement. As a result, ReLife is a mature school/slice of life with characters who are older than the typical ages shown.
SHIGATSU WA KIMI NO USO
‘Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso’ is another fantastic anime series that got high praise. The show’s high school setting earned it a position on our list, but it was the underlying musical, inspiring, and romance theme that drew me in. The narrative revolves around Kousei Arima, a talented pianist. But after his mother died, he couldn’t bring himself to play the guitar. Kaori Miyazono, a gifted musician, enters the picture. She is bright and happy, and she is the ideal person to help Kousei recover from his depression and resume playing. With Kaori at his side, Kousei resumes his playing and gradually moves on with his life. This is a fantastic concert that will leave you in tears.
GAMERS
Misunderstandings and the hilarity that ensues are central to Gamers. Pure Jam, a new studio with a modest portfolio, created this in 2017. It’s still one of my favorite comedy anime to this day, despite the fact that it’s just 12 episodes long. If you like Gintama, My Bride Is A Mermaid, Nozaki Kun, or other similar series, you should try this one.
KIMI NO NAWA
It is important to note that the premise of this film is not novel. However, this anime does it quite well. This is also believed that it is one of Rabindranath Tagore’s stories. In any case, the narrative of the film revolves around two characters, Mitsuha Miyamizu and Taki Tachibana. Mitsuha lives in a remote location and aspires to enjoy the life of a lad in Tokyo. Taki is a Tokyo-based young man who desires to be an architect. They both wake up one morning to discover that they are no longer themselves, but have rather exchanged bodies.
NICHIJOU
Nichijou, produced by Kyoto Animation, is a comedy series that practically everyone has heard of or has been recommended by someone. The approach to humor for a Kyoto Animation animation is very different from their regular manner. In addition to the art style. Expect incredible hilarity and some of the silliest episodes, characters, and conversations you’ve ever seen.
ANOTHER
Though most high school anime focuses on romance and depicts the characters in a high school environment, ‘Another’ is not one of them. It’s a horror-themed thriller anime that keeps spectators on the edge of their seats. The narrative revolves around Yomiyama North Middle School, where a young girl named Misaki died many years ago. Kouichi Sakakibara is a kid who moves to this school and is put in the same class as Misaki. He immediately discovers that the class has a dreamy vibe. What’s strange is that there’s a girl in the class named Misaki who wears an eyepatch. The pupils attempt to treat her as if she isn’t there.
K- PROJECT
The theme of Kings is central to this anime. They are unique beings with extraordinary talents. They take on the role of clan leader and recruit clan members. Kings must also look after their clansmen and defend them when necessary. Yashiro Ishana leads a typical existence as a high school student. But everything changes following the murder of Tatara Totsuka, a member of HOMRA. The murder video went viral, and the perpetrator appears to be a close relative of Yashiro. The red clansmen of HOMRA do not take the loss of one of their own light.
MAID SAMA
J.C Staff’s Maid Sama is a classic rom-com. And one of the first anime to impact key motifs and designs seen in these programs. Misaki Ayuzawa, the main character, comes from a debt-ridden household. And she’s doing everything she can to pay it off so her mum doesn’t have to. She eventually works herself to exhaustion. Usui Takumi, the male protagonist, is the one who makes Maid Sama laugh. And brings everything back into equilibrium.
HAIKYUU
Haikyuu is a fantastic sports series that is one of the most recent to achieve great success. And it does all of this while avoiding Kuroko No Basket (and using fan service). While you get your normal primary characters, one of them is animated and hyped up. With aspirations, goals, and a strong work ethic. And with the other protagonist being the polar opposite in certain aspects, they both have a good balance. Making their responsibilities more fluid. For good reason, Haikyuu is not like most school anime.
KIMI NU TODOKE
This is a good little high school anime, nothing out of the ordinary or overly stereotypical. But supposedly, it’s occasionally the recipe that works. Kuronuma Sawako is mentioned in ‘Kimi ni Todoke.’ She is modest and timid, but people and her classmates frequently misinterpret her demeanor. Sawako’s physical appearance contributes to this mistake since she has a striking similarity to the ghost girl from the horror film ‘The Ring.’ Sadako is a nickname given to her by her classmates. Sawako simply wants to live a regular life and have people with whom she may spend time. Kazehaya Shouta, a popular kid, captures her attention, but will he respond? But he does and begins conversing with Sawako. So there is yet hope for Kuronuma.
ANGEL BEATS
This is the afterlife that our faith should teach us. Otonashi is no longer alive. Is he in paradise, relaxing with God, or in hell, being cooked by the Devil? No one knows (is God or the Devil a gun-wielding adolescent girl?) But all we can say is that he is dead and in the hereafter. Other than his name, he has no recollection of himself. Otonashi encounters Yuri, a gun-wielding female who attempts to assist him to adjust to his afterlife. He also informs him that she is the commander of an organization known as Shinda Sekai Sensen, which is battling a wicked girl known as Tenshi. But Otonashi is skeptical about Yuri.
GREAT TEACHER ONIZUKA
The anime ‘Great Teacher Onizuka‘ is enjoyable. The concept is fantastic, as is the execution. The narrative centers around Onizuka, the head of a biker gang. He wants to put his mafia past behind him and become the finest teacher in the world. What prompted him to pursue such a wonderful goal, you may wonder? The cause, however, is not as noble as you believe. What else would you have expected? In any case, the assignment will be difficult because the school delinquents appear to relish causing issues for their instructor. However, As a professional in their affairs, Onizuka is the ideal person to manage these delinquents.
HIGH SCHOOL DxD
Issei Hyoudou is a hedonist. He and his mates spend the time attempting to converse about girlie attributes. They even try to spy on the females while they change. All Issei wants is a lovely girlfriend. Maybe someone is watching out for him now that a female has asked him out on a date. But all isn’t as it seems as the girl turns out to be a fallen angel who murders Issei. But there’s more to his story than meets the eye. Rias Gremory, a gorgeous demon, saves him. Issei is now her slave and must do her bidding. Those who enjoy nudity and ecchi things will enjoy ‘High School DxD.’ There are a lot of them. I enjoyed the anime because it showed that a normal anime can feature nudity without being hentai.

OREGAIRU
Oregairu is a school anime with dark undertones, profound hidden themes, and complicated characters. Each character was clearly created and written with care. The typical clichés and qualities of rom-com and slice-of-life anime are absent. Each episode and story is created with quality in mind. The narrative isn’t simple, but the overarching topic of Oregairu is friendship, society, and everything in between.
ORANGE
‘Orange’ has a fantastic concept. Naho Takamiya is the anime’s protagonist. She receives an unusual letter. The letter is, of course, addressed to her, but the sender seems strange. This letter from the future was sent by Naho herself. Yes, future. Naho wrote this letter to her ten-year-ago self. The letter states that Naho’s future is bleak, and she wishes for the current Naho to improve circumstances by using the letter as a guide. In addition, the letter mentions a child named Kakeru, whom Naho should keep an eye out for because he will not be there in the future. She must save him while simultaneously improving her own future.
TORADORA
Toradora is an anime that most people used to despise. The primary female character’s frequent physical abuse of the male character was irritating. That is what distinguishes Toradora. It’s the kind of anime that includes characters that will irritate you and episodes that will make your blood pressure rise. However, the comedy, the emotions, the tale, and how it evolves are priceless. It takes a lot for an anime to make you like it, regardless of how it begins or how the personalities of the characters fit into the storyline.
KILL LA KILL
Kill La Kill is Dragon Ball Z’s feminine counterpart. The second main difference is that it is set in a school, yet the action is just as exciting. If possible, make it more lively and detailed. Ryuko Matoi is on the lookout for her father’s assassin. It is her driving force and life’s mission. That is how she finds herself at Honnouji Academy. Trigger Studio outdid itself. It’s one of the greatest action/school animes released in the recent decade.
MIGHTIEST DISCIPLE KENICHI
This anime is simply plain entertaining. It’s amusing, plus there’s some amazing martial arts action. Kenichi is the anime’s primary protagonist and title character. He is frail and others often pick on him. Despite exercising and gaining strength, he prefers to read self-help books over engaging in physical activity. However, if he is challenged by a delinquent at a karate club, he must learn to fight if he wishes to continue attending the dojo. He seeks assistance at Ryouzanpaku, a location populated by experts of many martial arts disciplines.
