More than 80 flights have arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport, December 1 onwards, from the nations, recognized as “high-risk” regions, due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Additionally, more than 16,000 passengers who arrived in Delhi from these nations have so far undergone the required COVID-19 test at the terminal, senior officials from the airport asserted. India has included 11 countries in the ‘high-risk’ section amidst the spread of the new variant of Covid-19. The countries which are included in the list are South Africa, The UK, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Israel, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, New Zealand, and Botswana. Passengers arriving from these countries not only will go through necessary tests at the Delhi airport upon their arrival but will also be expected to provide details of their last 14 days of the trip and upload the documents on the government’s Air Suvidha portal. On Tuesday the Ministry of Civil Aviation also rendered it compulsory for all passengers to enroll on the Air Suvidha Portal.

The senior officials also stated that it will not only enable them to maintain a record of each person boarding the flight but will also authorize the flyers to pre-register for the required COVID-19 test and curtail nuisances at the airports. According to the newest data, on Tuesday, till afternoon, more than eight flights had arrived at the Delhi airport from these high-risk nations in which roughly 1300 passengers had entered. From December 1 and December 6, roughly 15,000 passengers entered the Delhi airport on various flights from these “high-risk” nations. An aggregate of 72 flights had reached the IGI Airport in those six days, the data exhibits. Approximately, 16,307 passengers have flown to Delhi from these nations in more than 80 flights, so far. According to the latest protocols, if the passenger is to be tested positive then he/she is to be kept under isolation and the test samples are brought for genome sequencing to ascertain if it is the Omicron variant.
