Justice UU Lalit has recently made a statement regarding the education system of India and it’s something needed to be taken seriously. He was attending a mega legal services camp and awareness program in Bhuj when he made this statement. According to him, India is lacking in education. It has not yet achieved the goal of inclusive education. Drawing examples from the nations themselves, he compared the quality of education in IITs, AIIMS, NITs to that of government schools.
According to him, even though institutes like IITs, NITs, AIIMS have achieved excellence in their fields, there is a stark contrast between government schools and them. He implied that to improve the quality of education, this gap needed to be bridged. He further solidified his stance with a question. He asked if the government schools are the first choice in terms of education or the private schools.
AIIMS and IIT Delhi join forces to address a long-standing issue
Justice Lalit emphasized the lack of inclusiveness of the Indian education system. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Our education is not inclusive. Our education is not such that those provided in some villages and big cities have no difference in their qualities. We must consider all this. And unless we achieve this, according to sustainable development standards, we are still lacking in terms of education”.
Further addressing the crowd, he said that education is the fundamental right of every child. Hence, every citizen must make available “good, quality education”. Justice UU Lalit is a judge in the Supreme Court of India. Appointed by the former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee, he had been nominated by R M Lodha. Before becoming the SC judge, he was practising as a senior counsel at the Supreme Court.
