Rachell Hofstetter, a YouTuber known as Valkyrae in games, introduced RFLCT, a skincare line designed to protect other gamers from the blue light generated by computer and phone screens.
What is that blue light? It’s all around us. The sun produces blue light, as do fluorescent and incandescent bulbs. Computer and laptop monitors, flat-screen TVs, and mobile phones all use LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology that emits large amounts of blue light. Blue light has a short wavelength, which means it produces a higher amount of energy. Blue light from computer screens, mobile phones do not pose a significant danger to eyesight but can cause eye strain, eye pain.

Valkyrae told Stylecaster that her generation is the first to have a lifestyle in which major portions of the day are spent in front of screens. The people do not understand the long-term effects of this activity.
Here, however, the dermatologists and the experts are sceptical. Studies are currently inconclusive about the harm of blue light on the skin and hence some people call the skincare line scam. Shari Marchbein, a New York-based dermatologist, told the Washington Post, that a lot of companies work concerning protection from blue light because evidence points out that it comes from sun rays. However, the emission of blue light from devices isn’t clear.
Studies have revealed that extended sun exposure can cause skin damage and that blue light exposure causes increased inflammation and collagen breakdown, Dr Michele Farber, a dermatologist with Schweiger Dermatology Group in Philadelphia, remarked.
However, researchers are still unsure whether Valkyrae’s claim is genuine. They are still looking into whether inflammation and degradation of collagen can occur from blue light emitted by computers, laptops, and cell phone screens.
