On 18 May 2020, he uploaded a video on TikTok where he was seen throwing water on a girl’s face who was also a TikTok performer. In the video by Faizal Siddiqui, people saw the water as acid and threw it on the girl’s face which made it seem like an acid attack. Although the video was mostly acting but it was seen to encourage the increasing offense of acid attack on women in India. The video showed that a one-sided lover threw acid on the girl’s face just because she rejects his advances.
Once he uploaded the video it was seen by millions and was circulated widely on the platform. Many asked the social media platform to delete the social star’s account. Many Bollywood and TV celebrities also came forward to raise their voice against the video and Faizal Siddiqui. The National commission for Women raised this issue forward and demanded police take action against him for promoting crime and violence on women on social media platforms. On the same day as the video was posted, an advocate Abhishek Rajpoot filed an F.I.R against him to the Uttar Pradesh police. He demanded to take action against Faizal Siddiqui for the video that promoted acid attacks on women.
Other Celebrity’s Criticisms
Sona Mohapatra, a celebrity took to Twitter to run an online campaign against Faizal Siddiqui and the video. She requested the social media platform TikTok to delete and banish videos that promoted violence against women. According to Faizal Siddiqui’s statement, the people presented the video in a wrong way and he had not meant what the video showed. He also came forward and apologized for the video. TikTok itself came forward to state that it cared for people and society. Later on 19 May 2020, they suspended Faizal Siddiqui’s TikTok account.
