“The four labor codes are likely to be implemented in the next financial year of 2022-23 as a large number of states have finalized draft rules on these,” according to a PTI report. “The Centre has completed the process of finalizing the draft rules on these codes in February 2021. But since labor is a concurrent subject, the Centre wants the states to implement these as well in one go,” he added.

How will it impact individuals?
It was reported that the central government has issued four labor codes, probably relating to wages, social security, health, and safety in the workplace. According to the Hindustan Times, a report speculates that Indian employees might have the privilege of working four days instead of five days from next year due to a reformed code. Well, here’s the thing though: if this happens, employees may be obliged to work 12 hours on such four days. According to the labor ministry, unemployed people will be required to work 48 hours a week. Employees’ Provident Fund (PF) accounts may also be impacted if their in-hand income is lowered.
When are the codes scheduled to be implemented?
In a recent address to the Rajya Sabha, India’s Union Labour Minister Bhupender Yadav noted that the Occupational Safety, Health, and Working Conditions Code is the only one on which the drafted regulations have been pre-published by the fewest 13 states. On the other hand, the Centre and states are required to issue regulations under the four codes to enforce the laws in their respective jurisdictions. The right to create rules has been delegated to the Central Government, State Governments, and appropriate Governments under the Codes, with the need that regulations be published in their official gazette for a period of 30 or 45 days for public comment.
