Every three years, the survey is conducted which assesses the abilities developed by the students that are at the grade levels of 3rd, 5th, and 8th. From 1.23 lakh schools located in 733 districts, over 38 Lakh Students residing there across the country will be participating in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) on Friday, the 12th of November, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE) officials.
The survey is conducted every 3 years. Lastly, it was conducted in the year 2017 and so it was supposed to take place in 2020. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it couldn’t be held in 2020 and so it is now scheduled in 2021. The survey will be covering both, government and private school students which will help to examine their learning skills and new learnings during the pandemic and help to take the necessary steps in improving it further.
NCERT will be taking care of the testing, instrument development, finalisation of necessary items for tests, sampling of schools, etc. While the actual council of the test to be conducted in the sampled schools will be done by the CBSE in cooperation with the respective states. A National Steering Committee to conduct NAS has been constituted by the Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE).
A senior official of the ministry said that NAS will be conducted in:
- For class 3rd and 5th – Language, Mathematics and EVS.
- For class 8th – Language, Mathematics, Science & Social Science.
- For class 10th – Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English.
The test would be conducted in 22 mediums of instruction which are English, Hindi, Odiya, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mizo, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Bodo, Urdu, Garo, Khasi, Konkani, Nepali, Bhutani, and Lepcha,”.
