At least 30 farmers have been charged in various sections of Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district for allegedly burning field stubble in the last two days, police said on Saturday, and eight of them have been sent to jail for failing to pay the fine. To reduce pollution, several governments have outlawed the burning of stubble or crop residue, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. “On Thursday, eight farmers were charged with burning field stubble in Bhairampur village, and the sub-divisional magistrate recovered the fine from them,” said Satyendra Singh Bhadauria, Station House Officer (SHO), Hussainganj.
According to him, the decision was made in reaction to lekhpals’ reports (revenue authorities). “Eight farmers were arrested because they couldn’t pay the sub-divisional magistrate’s fine,” Sher Singh Rajput, Mallawa’s SHO, said. His counterpart in Kotwali, Ravindra Srivastava, reported that three farmers in his region had been fined Rs 10,000 apiece. Viplove Thakur, a former Rajya Sabha member, and senior Congress politician accused the state administration of conducting a political vendetta against Fatehpur farmers in a news release released here today.
Power tariff slashed by Rs 3 per unit in Punjab
She claims the government opened three FCI procurement centers in Fatehpur during the election campaign. All of these were closed shortly after the BJP lost the elections. Farmers have been compelled to sell their paddy at throwaway rates as a result of this.
According to Viplove, the mandis were opened because farmers in Himachal’s border areas, who used to sell their produce in Punjab mandis, were having trouble this year. The Punjab government has banned all agricultural products from other states from entering its mandis. The state government rushed to open three FCI mandis in Fatehpur, fearing that this might jeopardize their election prospects.
The e-portal stated that the mandis would remain open until November 30. She added that the state administration had written to the Union government to extend the procurement to December 30 because paddy harvesting begins late in several districts of Himachal. Viplove claimed that the state government’s move to close FCI mandis in Fatehpur revealed the BJP’s true colors. It demonstrated that it was unconcerned with farmers’ situation.
