Last month, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly stated that the rescheduled match would be a continuation of the series rather than a separate game. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that the game will be moved from Manchester to Edgbaston as part of India’s white-ball tour.
The fifth Test in the series, which India leads 2-1, has been moved from Manchester’s Old Trafford to Birmingham’s Edgbaston. Pre-existing obligations mean that Old Trafford will not have enough time to prepare a decent pitch, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), so the Test against South Africa, which begins on August 25, has been shifted from Edgbaston to Old Trafford.
To accommodate an extra Test, the 50-over and Twenty20 matches between the two countries have been rescheduled. The fifth Test match was postponed just hours before it was scheduled to begin on September 10. During the fourth Test, India’s coach, Ravi Shastri, was enthusiastic, as were bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar.
The last Test between England and India was cancelled in September after Indian players raised health concerns about taking the field. Some of them had submitted a letter to the BCCI about health difficulties related to a COVID-19 case in the Indian camp.

Because the Test was scheduled inside the available window, the limited-overs series began six days later than planned. The number of white-ball games remains unchanged from what was originally intended. If India had been ruled to have abandoned or forfeited the suspended Test, as many thought, the series would have ended 2-2.
The fifth and final Test between India and England, which was postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak last month, was rescheduled for July next year on Friday, pushing the start of a limited-overs series between the two teams back by six days. The game, which was postponed when Covid-19 cases arose in the Indian contingent, will resume on July 1.
