India won the third and final T20I against New Zealand by 73 runs, completing a 3-0 clean sweep in the three-match series at the legendary Eden Gardens on Sunday, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s magnificent half-century and a flawless bowling effort headed by Axar Patel (3/9). This was India’s second consecutive clean sweep of New Zealand in a T20I series, after a 5-0 victory on home soil in January 2020. It was also Sharma and Rahul Dravid’s first series wins as full-time captain and head coach, respectively.
It was a fantastic series victory. Throughout the series, everyone performed well. It feels excellent to get off to a solid start. We’re also grounded in reality. We need to keep our feet on the ground and be realistic about our chances of winning. It was never going to be simple for New Zealand to play in a World Cup final and then return three days later to play three games in six days. From our standpoint, it’s nice, but we need to learn from this series and move on. Over the next ten years, we’ll be on a lengthy trip with plenty of ups and downs. It’s been great to see some of the younger players step forward.
