The first female racing driver of Saudi Arabia Reema Juffali on November 29 has been appointed an ambassador for the country’s inaugural Formula One Grand Prix in Jeddah this week, the organizers said on Monday. She is a year old young talent who competed in the British Formula Three championship this year, will be one of the first to drive a lap of the street circuit along the shores of the Red Sea. She will also take part in a track shakedown of a 1979 Williams Formula One car, which carried sponsorship for national airline Saudia.
Yemen journalists fear for their lives
“I feel very proud to have been chosen as the ambassador of Saudi motorsport in the first Formula 1 race in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I grew up in Jeddah, and I’ve always walked the same streets that will now make up the circuit that the best drivers in the world will race on, and I can say that this is a very important occasion for the city,” Reema Juffali said upon receiving the news.
Reema Juffali is a true inspiration for the people especially the female section that if you have full determination and vigor then nothing is impossible and nothing can come as a hurdle in your path of success. Saudi Arabia had put a ban on women driving in 2018 and Juffali became the first Saudi female license holder to compete in a series that same year. In an interview, she said, “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the activities over the race weekend and I hope that my story and the journey can provide some inspiration to anyone thinking of following their dream.”
Sunday’s Formula One race will be a third of four in the Middle East this season and could also be a title decider. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen leads Mercedes’ seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, by eight points ahead of the penultimate round, with the final race on Dec 12 in Abu Dhabi.
