Ravichandran Ashwin, an India spinner, has revealed how he prepares to bowl against hitters such as Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian team’s spinner, has detailed his execution of several tactics devised for batters such as Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. Ashwin, who excelled in India’s recent home victories over New Zealand, said he needed time to figure out the two hitters’ intricate strategies before he could beat them. While explaining the thought process behind Smith’s hitter, Ashwin mentioned his nearly six-month “obsession” with the batter’s psyche and how it helped him write his demise.
Ashwin also talked about the research he did to figure out how a batter collects runs in different parts of the field. He discussed how he had to keep track of every session Labuschagne was in, as well as the bowlers who bowled at him and their approaches. He added: “The most recent series they played (before India’s trip to Australia in 2020-2021) was against New Zealand. Every play day was something I kept an eye on. When Somerville came to bowling, I went to my app and checked – how many races (Marnus) did Labuschagne do? What ball he hit over Cow’s Corner?”
Here’s what Harshad Mehta’s brother, Ashwin Mehta is up to these days!
Smith’s hitting approach, according to the spinner, is “momentum-driven,” with a concentration on his hand-movement patterns, having varying speeds, run-ups, and variations while bowling at Smith during a series helped. “… with Steve Smith’s batting could be heavily influenced by momentum. Because his fingers do the majority of his batting, my first thinking was to disrupt his fingers with the sequence. He’s figured out how to move his hands in specific patterns. It is essential to select them and be able to throw them in a way that does not disrupt his hand sample. So I experimented with different load-ups, speeds, and run-ups, among other things I realized I had gotten to him,” Ashwin explained.
