Rafael Nadal of Spain, Denis Shapovalov of Canada, Belinda Bencic of Switzerland, and Ons Jabeur of Tunisia all tested positive after competing in the event. Emma Raducanu, the US Open champion, tested positive in Abu Dhabi before the tournament and withdrew, while Rafael Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya was also infected with the new coronavirus.

Rublev, 24, revealed on Twitter that he was isolated with minor symptoms after defeating Andy Murray in the World Tennis Championship final on Dec, 18. The Australian Open will begin on January 17 at Melbourne Park. Rublev was a member of the Russian men’s team that won the ATP Cup this year and has been named to the squad for the upcoming edition in Sydney, which begins on Saturday. “Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 while in Barcelona,” the Russian added. “I’m in seclusion and under the observation of doctors, following all of the protocols.”

“As you are aware, I am fully immunized and have been preparing for the ATP Cup and the Australian Open.
