Winter arrives with a spike of beautiful weather and a rise in the tourist flow at hilly locations. What attracts tourists the most is the scenic beauty they witness along with the rise in snowfall. Tourists management comes under a very crucial department for the ministry as the enjoyment should not be hindered by the lack of safety issues. Matters of tourists’ and civilians’ safety can be seen in the states like Jammu, Ladakh where the weather, with itself, not only brings beauty but extreme conditions too. Owing to this kind of safety reasons only, the Leh highway has been forced shut down until any further notice from the administration’s side. The Ladakh administration passed the orders for the closing of highways and any vehicular movement until further orders. The closing of the highway to enforce every kind of movement to shut down is very much justifiable as the extreme weather conditions see no end in the region.

The Ladakh ministry was forced to take up a serious move like this owing to the safety of people amid the harsh and dangerous weather conditions in the area. Elaborating more from their side, the Ladakh administration added that due to continuous weather breakdowns, fierce spells of snowfall, and extreme conditions at the Zoji-la axis, there is an immense accumulation of snowfall in the area. The administration explained their move by stating that due to heavy snowfall the highway is quite unfit for even usual vehicular movement. The ministry stated that all its measures are in the interest of the general public and for ensuring their safety. The ministry has also advised the civilians and tourists in the area to be more careful and to suspend the use of the Srinagar-Leh highway via Zoji-la-axis immediately. Amid all the safety measures taken, meteorological surveys have predicted heavy rainfall and snow in the areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
