Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday announced that various international travelers, who are testing negative for the coronavirus upon arrival at the airport, are found to be positive after a few days and put their family members by infecting them during the period. He also added that the district authorities are in touch with such travelers. Jain accused international flights of the constant rise in daily Covid-19 cases that the national capital is presently observing. “Even during the earlier waves, the cases rose with the flights coming in,” he notified the reporters. As per the prevailing guidelines as communicated by the Union health ministry, travelers from “at-risk” countries who test negative for coronavirus at the airport have to mandatorily endure home quarantine for seven days. After the seven days are over, they are tested again and if the outcome turns out to be negative again, they are expected to self-monitor their health for the next seven days. For those entering from nations not identified as ‘at-risk’, a random 2 percent will require to take the RT-PCR test at the airport. If the outcome is negative, they are expected to self-monitor their health for at least 14 days. In both the above-mentioned cases, if travelers test positive for Covid-19 at any time, their samples are delivered for genome sequencing. These patients are managed at a distinct isolation facility and “treated as per laid down standard protocol, including contact tracing”. Moreover, their contacts are maintained under institutional quarantine or at home isolation, and their health is rigidly regulated by the state government concerned. Jain’s declarations came a day after Delhi reported the massive jump in single-day Covid-19 cases since June 4 with 496 infections and yet another death. Also, the national capital’s Omicron tally on Wednesday ascended to 238, thereby making it the worst-hit region in India.
