Since the pandemic started, we are repeatedly coming across people, ordinary and famous alike, falling victims to the COVID. Sportspersons have not been an exception either. However, there’s yet another addition to this forever-growing list of COVID-19 positive people. This addition is Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis star.
In his recent tweet, the tennis star broke the news of him testing positive for Corona Virus on his arrival in Spain from Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. Now it is to be seen if he plays in the upcoming Australian Open tournament. This year was a tumultuous one for the Spaniard since he got sidelined for several months due to a foot injury.

In the last 6 months, due to the injury, he could only play two games. This foot injury had also prevented him from playing remaining matches in Wimbledon and the US Open. His participation in the Australian Open was under heavy doubt. However, the degree of uncertainty has again increased due to him being COVID-19 positive.
Talking about his performance in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, he lost to Andy Murray in the semi-finals by a score of 6-3, 7-5. Even during his stint at the Mubadala tournament, he expressed doubts over his participation in the season’s first tournament. He said, “The idea is to go there and try my best there in Australia… Being 100% honest, I can’t guarantee it. I need to speak with my team… It’s more than six months since the last real official match. Things are difficult and I accept that… I was able to compete in both matches and even had my chances, so if we put that in perspective it’s a very positive thing.
“I went through this process, unfortunately, a lot of times in my tennis career but I need to practice and I need to be healthy enough to go through this process. If that happens, I’m confident that I will be back.”
