Dengue cases have reached an all-time high of 2,116 in five years, with 61 days left till the end of 2021, surpassing the previous high of 2,112 in 2017. In the first 24 days of October, 1,772 cases were reported, with 64 cases per day on average. In September, there were 344 instances reported. According to civil surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur, the district has had 21 deaths so far, 19 in October and two in September.

The administration, she claimed, has devised a comprehensive strategy to combat dengue fever. A 23-year-old man from Kerala village, a 68-year-old woman from Dashmesh Colony in Zirakpur, and a 42-year-old guy from Kheri Jattan village in Dera Bassi have been named as the newest casualties. They were all in various hospitals receiving treatment.
OP Soni, the Punjab deputy chief minister who also serves as the health minister, visited the civil hospital in Phase 6 in Mohali on Wednesday to assess the condition. He went to the dengue ward and spoke with the patients on the arrangements and medicine supply. Soni stated that on the third floor of the hospital, a separate 80-bed unit has been set up for both confirmed and suspected dengue patients, where they are receiving free treatment. The quantity of mosquito-netted beds has also increased.
