Charanjit Singh Channi, member of the Indian National Congress. He was previously appointed as Minister of Technical Education and Training in Second Amarinder Singh ministry and leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly and is the current Chief Minister of Punjab. On Sunday he said, he will learn Sanskrit and do a doctorate on the Mahabharata as he announced to set up a research center on the Hindu texts Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavad Gita. A cheque for Rs 10 crore has already been handed over to the district administration and more funds whenever needed will be provided. Channi said his government is trying to cord in a respected Shankracharya for this ambitious project.

A new research center will be established which will showcase the message of the three Hindu epics, which have been a source of life and inspiration for humanity. This exclusive center is for research on three Hindu epics – Ramayana, Mahabharata, and the Bhagavad Gita. CM Channi also said in a conference that the life and philosophy of Bhagwan Parshuram teach us that irrespective of our caste, religion, and profession, we should fight injustice with all our might. The CM also said his government will build the “taposthal” of Bhagwan Parshuram as a state-of-the-art architectural marvel.
“I was told by a very wise and scholarly man to learn one shloka of the Bhagavad Gita every day to make my life meaningful. The Gita updesh is unparalleled. My present Ph.D. will be completed in three months. Then I will start learning Sanskrit and do a Ph.D. on the Mahabharata,” he added.
The chief minister further said to ensure the best care of stray cattle in the state, the Brahmin Welfare Board will be loaded with this task. It is the need of the hour to solve this one of the major social problems, he added.
