The virus mutated into its newest form in South Africa got transmitted pretty easily and within no time, many countries fell victim to it. One such badly hit country is the UK, where 86 new Omicron cases have been reported. This has increased the total number of Omicron cases in the United Kingdom to a concerning 246. This number has also marked an enormous rise in Omicron cases in the UK by 50%. It is yet to be seen if the Omicron variant is another deadly mutation of the Corona Virus. However, it is quite capable of spreading at a very alarming rate as can be seen by various reports. As of now, nearly 89 countries have reported Omicron cases. A recent report by WHO says that the Omicron cases are doubling every 1.5 to 3 days.

Some of the worst-hit countries include India, South Africa, Australia, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, along with many others. Studies have also shown that this newly-mutated version of COVID is the fastest-spreading variant yet. In many countries, it is about to overtake the data variant of COVID as the most dominant variant. However, even after widespread destruction, many questions surrounding it are yet to be answered. One of the most important questions is that how effective our vaccines are against this new variant. It is to be noted that WHO labeled Omicron as the new COVID variant on November 26.
