Olympic bronze medalist India won against arch-rivals Pakistan 4-3 in a tremendous third-fourth place play-off game to gain the bronze medal at the Asian Champions Trophy men’s hockey tournament here on Wednesday. India was the defending champions along with Pakistan in the previous volume of the tournament in Muscat and will come back with a consolation award after having forfeited to Japan 3-5 in the semifinals on Tuesday. India was ahead in the game from the initial minute through vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh before Sumit (45th), Varun Kumar (53rd), and Akashdeep Singh (57th) hit a goal each. Pakistan’s goals were achieved by Afraz (10th), Abdul Rana (33rd), and Ahmed Nadeem (57th). It was India’s additional win over Pakistan in the tournament after having won against the same opponents 3-1 in the round-robin phases.

Arriving into the tournament as hot idols and having topped the round-robin stage with an unbeaten score, the Indians would be disheartened to return to the country with a bronze. In the game clash late on Wednesday, South Korea will play Japan. The match between India and Pakistan was neck to neck and interesting to watch. The fierce competition between the teams was intriguing to see. India won the bronze medal as a prize for winning against the Pakistan team. The Asian Champions Trophy is a tournament held by Asian Hockey Federation and comprises six teams that compete against each other to win the medals. Both the teams, Pakistan and India have been the most successful in Men’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy thrice. It is held annually and in 2018 Pakistan and India were declared joint winners. In 2021 South Korea was declared the winner of this event.
