Lately, situtaions have been tough between the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the current Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman. In an interview, Manmohan Singh said that “PM Modi talks big but falls short on work”. In reaction to Dr. Singh’s criticism of the Modi Government, Sitharaman, on Thursday said that he is more remembered for having brought India to “fragile five” and rampant inflation during his term. He is better remembered as a Prime Minister under whose term inflation remained in double digit for 22 months straight and who saw capital fly out of the country, the minister said.
“I have great regards for you (Singh). I did not expect this from you. And I am hurt,” Sitharaman said. Furthermore, she anticipated whether Manmohan Singh’s statements were under the political influence of the upcoming Punjab assembly polls. Moreover, she compared data on export, FDI and inflation during the Modi government with the Singh’s dispensation to assert that economic indicators are much better now.
