Stubble burning is decreasing, but air quality remains ‘very poor’; winds are expected to provide aid. On Sunday morning, the air quality in Delhi was rated as ‘very poor’, according to SAFAR, with an overall AQI of 347. According to the Ministry of Earth Science’s air quality monitor, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), air pollution levels in Delhi managed to remain in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday morning. Despite the fact that the impact of stubble burning on the city’s air quality has decreased dramatically due to a drop in field fires in neighboring states, the impact of stubble burning on the city’s air quality has increased.
Air Quality Index in Delhi
According to SAFAR, the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was 347 at 6 am today, with particulate matter (PM) concentrations with diameters of 10 and 2.5 microns at 301 (‘bad’ category) and 181 (‘very poor’ category) correspondingly.

While north-westerly winds are ideal for transporting stubble-burning-related pollution to Delhi, the effect on Delhi’s PM2.5 (particulate pollutants) has decreased as wind speed has decreased, according to a SAFAR official release. At PM 2.5, agricultural residue burning accounted for 30% of all fires on Tuesday. Due to moderate surface winds, Delhi’s air quality improved somewhat to the ‘very poor’ category on Monday, after three days in the ‘severe’ category following Diwali.
AQI Values
AQI values are somehow classified as:-
- between 51 and 100 are regarded as ‘satisfactory,’
- 101-200 are considered ‘moderate,’
- 201-300 are considered ‘poor.’
- 300 and 400 are regarded ‘very poor’
- between 401 and 500 are labeled ‘dangerous.’
Initiation by Delhi government
The Delhi government has mobilized over 100 tankers to spray water throughout the city in an effort to reduce air pollution and settle dust. Gopal Rai, the Delhi Environment Minister, also stated that 20 anti-haze cannons would be installed to help reduce the smog.
