On Thursday, a medical team from the United States performed the second renowned kidney transplant, this time from a pig to a human being. This is the first time an inside-the-body attempt has been made on a brain-dead subject. This is an example of the successful implantation of a pig heart into a human being.
On September 25, 2021, a team from New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center became the first in the world to perform a pig kidney transplant in a person. This included a patient who was brain dead and on a ventilator, whose family had given permission for the treatment to go place.
This was due to the fact that the kidney was completely connected to the rest of the body on the inside. According to the UAB team, their procedure is one step closer to being a reality in the clinic.
There were a number of other factors involved in the procedure. Attaching a kidney to blood veins on the top of one of the patient’s legs was the goal of the procedure. This was done in order for the scientist to be able to examine it and collect biopsy samples.
On the 30th of September in the year 2021, a new surgery was performed. This includes the transplantation of two kidneys from a genetically engineered pig into a human being. Jim Parsons was the individual in question. Jim, who was 57 years old, wanted to be an organ donor, but his organs were deemed unsuitable due to their age.
