Almost over a month after leaving the congress, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh revealed the name of his own new party as Punjab Lok Congress. The registration of the party is pending confirmation with the Election Commission of India.
Revealing the party’s name on Tuesday in Chandigarh, Captain Amarinder Singh said, “Since we had already disclosed the idea of our own party, our team of lawyers were working on the process and had applied for its registration to the Election Commission of India. He added, “The Election Commission has no objections to the recommended name for the party.”
To its brief, Captain Amarinder Singh said, “The Election Commission had given three symbols from which they had to choose one. He also said that his own party had given three different symbols and the final one will be chosen from the bunch of six symbols, three proposed by the Election Commission and the rest three by the party. After a while, the party will be formally launched. All the processes, programmes, agenda and vision will too be spelt out during the launch of the party, says Amarinder Singh.
SAD, BSP to fight Chandigarh civic body elections together
It’s not a new call for Captain Amarinder Singh to launch a new political party. In 1984, he left the Congress and had joined SAD to protest the Indian Army operation at the Golden Temple. Later in 1992, he broke up from SAD and formed his own political group as SAD (panthic), which did not seem much fruitful. He then mingled his political party with Congress in 1997. Since then, Amarinder Singh has been a part of Congress.
After a lot of rebels with Congress and Navjot Singh Sidhu, Captain Amarinder Singh decided to resign from his post. In a seven-page resignation letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Captain Amarinder Singh wrote, “I actually felt deeply hurt by your conduct and that of your children who I still deeply love as much as my own children, having known their father, since we were in school together since 1954, which is for 67 years now.”
As per the source, India Today, Captain Amarinder Singh has led to trigger insecurities in Punjab Congress due to his resignation. Further, the Punjab Congress leader said that no party leader would switch to Captain Amarinder’s political party. Amarinder claims that many leaders were in line to line to join his party.
