The farmers’ ‘rail roko’ uproar in Amritsar on Monday affected Chandigarh as well. Due to the farmers, six trains were canceled and two trains were short-terminated. Some of the passengers got agitated at the Chandigarh railway station when the cancellation of the trains occurred. Ajit Pal Singh, who was a passenger and was heading to Amritsar, stated that not a single piece of information was communicated by the railway station to the passengers about the cancellation. He stated, “I needed to reach Amritsar. Now, there is no time to catch a bus,”. Trains that were canceled included Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh SuperFast Express, Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh Intercity Express, and Chandigarh-Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express. Sachkhand Express and Paschim Bandra Express were stopped at Chandigarh and their forward trip to Mohali and Amritsar was discontinued. A train departing on Tuesday for Amritsar and coming from there were discontinued and one train entering from Ferozepur was canceled, declared railway authorities.
The farmers’ demands encompassed loan waiver, reimbursement, and jobs for families of farmers who departed during their agitation and fulfillment of commitments provided to them by the administration. The trains which were canceled fell under the supervision of the Ferozpur Railway Division. The Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee has halted the route at the Jandiala Guru railway station in Amritsar and the trains to and from Amritsar were being deflected through the Beas, Tarn Taran, and Bhagtan Wala railway stations. Chief Public Relation Officer(CPRO) listed all the names of the trains which were delayed due to the agitation of the Kisan Morcha. As the farmers squatted on the tire tracks trains had to be halted and this affected the entire schedule of the trains in both states of Punjab and Haryana. The uprisings and protest is going to be continued till the central government gives in to the demands of the farmers.
