With one year passing since the city’s reopening its borders to international tourists on July 7, 2020, the most recent figures released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) show that the city welcomed 3.7 million overnight visitors during the 11-month period from July 2020 through May 2021. According to recent figures, Dubai received 12.5 million passengers in the first seven months of 2021, an increase from the previous year. This has also resulted in the airport maintaining its status as the busiest international airport in the world for international travel.
As a result of the positive performance, Dubai has cemented its position as a global leader in the recovery of the tourism industry, underscoring the city’s long-standing appeal as a must-visit destination and reaffirming the city’s commitment to ensuring the health and safety of all residents and visitors.
According to figures released by Dubai Tourism, the emirate welcomed more than 1.7 million visitors from markets that were open between July and December 2020, with an additional two million people arriving in the first five months of 2021. Since Dubai reopened its doors to international travelers again, the evolving travel landscape has produced some notable performances from the feeder and emerging markets, particularly CIS countries like Kazakhstan and Ukraine, as well as East African markets Ethiopia and Sudan, all of which have demonstrated strong growth potential and are now among the top 15 source markets for the city.
