A watch notice has been issued for Bikram Singh Majithia, a former Punjab minister who was identified in a police case yesterday over narcotics trafficking in the state. Mr. Majithia has reportedly gone for Rajasthan, according to police sources. Navjot Singh Sidhu of the Congress and other lawmakers have long demanded that Mr. Majithia, a minister in Punjab’s erstwhile Akali-BJP government, be charged with involvement in the state’s escalating drug problem.
Mr. Majithia has been charged under several sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act by the Punjab Police. The First Information Report is based on the findings of a Special Task Force established to combat the drug problem in Punjab. To arrest the former minister, a Special Investigating Team (SIT) formed by the Punjab DGP raided numerous locations in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and the national capital. Assistant Inspector General Balraj Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kulwant Singh, and DSP Rajesh Kumar are among the members of the team.
Majithia has been charged with cognizable offenses under Sections 25 (punishment for allowing premises to be used for commission of an offense), 27(A) (financing activities indulging in production, manufacture, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, use or consumption, import and export or deal in any activities pertaining to narcotic drugs) and 29 (party to a criminal conspiracy pertaining to narcotic drugs) in a 49-page FIR filed at the State. These sections provide for up to ten years in jail as well as a fine determined by the court.

The lawsuit filed against Bikram Singh Majithia will not face legal examination, according to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, because the administration did not follow the proper process. “This is an incorrect situation. This is a case that I am extremely familiar with. Despite the fact that the investigation report in this matter remains sealed in the Punjab-Haryana High Court, a case has been filed against Majithia only for political revenge. This system is flawed “he stated.
