Mohali Municipal Corporation will install 100 CCTV cameras in the markets for the safety of children and women as part of the Government of India’s Nirbhaya scheme, for Rs 4.5 crore. In this regard, a complete project report has been created. In the first phase, 100 CCTV cameras will be put throughout the city of Mohali. The Punjab Police, numerous law enforcement agencies, and the state government authorities would be in charge of monitoring these cameras, which would considerably improve women’s safety.
80 fixed cameras and 20 moving cameras will be deployed in Phase 7, Phase 3B2 market, and Phase 5 near the girls’ ITI. The state government has created the Punjab urban local bodies surveillance grid for women’s safety (PUNGRID-WS) plan, which would see CCTV cameras put in sites where women congregate, such as girls’ colleges, universities, educational institutions, and markets.

This decision was made at today’s MC meeting. Senior Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh Somal, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Commissioner Kamal Garg, DSP (Traffic), and other authorities attended the meeting. In light of the scenario, he stated that the Nirbhaya Fund of the Union Government would be utilized to strengthen city surveillance systems to protect women.
The Mayor stated that the Punjab government has made numerous initiatives to ensure women’s protection, but atrocities against women continue to rise. He stated that the State Government has established the Punjab Urban Local Bodies Surveillance Grid for the Women’s Safety Scheme, under which CCTV cameras would be deployed in places where girls move, such as colleges, universities, educational institutions, and markets. According to numerous law enforcement agencies, it will considerably improve women’s safety. Police have identified areas where crimes against women are anticipated to increase, according to Sidhu.
