An improper planning and rapid urbanization process have left many towns in Mohali in a civic mess. Due to the improper planning of the city, the residents have to face many issues, especially the issue of waterlogging during the monsoon season. Mohali district in Punjab came into existence in April 2006. It was carved out of areas falling between Ropar and Patiala. The district of Mohali is known as Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar or SAS Nagar. Apart from Mohali town in the district, all the other towns have been a civic mess. Some of them include Zirakpur, Kharar, Derabassi, and Nayagaon. While these regions suffer from frequent power shortages in the summer and the issue of waterlogging in the monsoon, the towns are also infested with illegal activities. The residents accuse the poor administration to be the root cause of all these issues. Some of the illegal activities include illegal mining activities, illegal housing projects, and many more. Residents have also complained that many builders have cut down numerous trees for their illegal projects.
SAD, BSP to fight Chandigarh civic body elections together
The whole district is suffering from poor infrastructural facilities and illegal activities. Not only that, the diesel prices are touching the skies. As a result, installing a power generator in homes during summertime is also not a feasible thing to do. Even though Mohali is one of the more livable towns in Punjab, it is also infested with some issues, like the presence of different industries that have been dwindling lately. It is to be noted that in the 2017 Punjab elections, INC’s Balbir Singh Sidhu was elected as the MLA. On the other hand, the elected MLAs from the Kharar and Derabassi constituencies in the 2017 elections were Kanwar Sandhu of AAP and N K Sharma of SAD.
