The UT government has agreed to prohibit the access of unvaccinated people to public spaces, hotels, banks, and government offices from January 1. Over 1.85 lakh beneficiaries are still left to take their second dose. They had neglected to turn up on the due date. UT adviser Dharam Pal, in the orders issued on Friday, asserted the decision was taken to assure the safety of non-vaccinated adults as they should not attend public spaces and stay at their homes as the risk of Omicron is still prevalent. “Considering emergent issues, especially because of the recent variant of concern, the persons who are not fully vaccinated are expected to take more precautions. All those adults who are still left to take both the doses should stay at their residences and should not visit any of the public places/markets/functions/public transport/religious places,” stated Pal. “The non-vaccinated persons will have to withhold from arriving at public places with huge gatherings like sabzi mandi, grain markets, public transport, gardens, spiritual places, malls, shopping complexes, local markets, and other similar places. Only people who are fully vaccinated or those who are not due for a second dose as per health protocol are to be permitted.
Unvaccinated 14 Times More Likely to Die From COVID
The violation of these rules will tempt a fine of Rs 500 and nonpayment of the fine by the violator will invite proceedings under Section 188 of IPC. Several beneficiaries are expected for a second dose of Covid-19 vaccination for a long time. Moreover, fresh variants of Covid are appearing often, and lately, Omicron cases are showing an increasing trend in our country. Looking into the recent scenario, such steps are required to be taken for increasing coverage of vaccination to mitigate the spread of coronavirus,” said Pal. Chandigarh on Friday documented 12 new Covid cases, while six patients were discharged. The confirmed cases are 65,754, comprising 1,078 deaths. The recovery count is 64,573. The active cases are 103.
