Tesla has decided to stop allowing video games to be played on center touch screens while its vehicles are in motion, under criticism from US auto safety regulators. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the business will send out a software update over the Internet that will lock the “Passenger Play” function and prevent it from working while the vehicle is in motion.
Tesla will disable the gaming while driving feature in compliance with a directive from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States. Tesla Inc. has restricted access to video games available in their vehicles by removing the capability that lets passengers play games on the 16-inch front screen while driving, according to the major US car safety agency.
According to the NHTSA, “the Vehicle Safety Act forbids manufacturers from selling vehicles with flaws that pose unacceptable hazards to safety, including devices that divert drivers from driving safely.” According to the agency, it evaluates how manufacturers identify and protect against distracting dangers caused by the misuse or intentional use of screens and other convenience technology.

Despite the update, the official stated that the inquiry would continue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) underlined that the Vehicle Safety Act prohibits corporations from selling vehicles that pose major safety concerns, such as those caused by distracted driving. Between the model years 2017 and 2022, the probe covers approximately 580,000 Tesla EVs.
Tesla no longer has a public relations department and did not respond to requests for comment. The feature change, on the other hand, isn’t unexpected. If the NHTSA determines Tesla was irresponsible, inaction could exacerbate the repercussions. There’s also the issue of market competition. Mercedes-Benz recently addressed a bug that allowed for video playing in the middle of a drive; it wouldn’t look good if Tesla didn’t follow suit.
