However, a survey based on people’s opinions in the US has named a company as the worst company of the year 2021. This is none other than the tech giant Meta.
Founded as Facebook in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, the corporation underwent a major rebranding where it got renamed, Meta. Now all the products of Facebook like Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram fall under the umbrella of Meta. This open-ended survey was organized by Yahoo Finance. Based on the opinions of 1541 people, Meta was branded as the worst company of 2021.

As per the statistics released by the report, Meta earned 8 percent of the total votes declaring it the winner by a long shot. The runner was Jack Ma’s Alibaba. Facebook scored 50% more votes than Alibaba. Other names mentioned by the users in the survey included the Robinhood trading app, and Nikola, the electric truck start-up. It is to be noted that Nikola was declared the worst company last year by Yahoo Finance.
There are many reasons behind Facebook being named the worst company. WhatsApp’s new privacy policy said it would collect user data and share it with third-party apps. This received a lot of criticism. Another big controversy arose when former Facebook employee Frances Haugen leaked some documents showing that Facebook was very well-aware of the impact Instagram had on teenage girls. However, Facebook did nothing about it. This was a major blow to the reputation of Facebook.
