Khairy Jamaluddin has been named Vice President of the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA). Khairy was overwhelmingly elected by the Western Pacific national governments of the World Health Organization (WHO) to represent the area at the 75th WHA. The World Health Organization’s highest judgment institution is the World Health Assembly (WHA). It is an organization that connects all 194 WHO member nations and also defines WHO policy.
The WHA also picks the WHO’s Director-General, supervises fiscal management, and reviews and approves expenditures for proposed programs. Khairy will symbolize 37 Western Pacific nations, comprising Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as various Southeast Asian countries (excluding Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Timor-Leste). The 75th World Health Assembly will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in May 2022.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director General of Health, also commended Khairy on his nomination. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared on Friday that Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is the lone contender to succeed him when his current term ends. The previous Ethiopian healthcare and minister of foreign affairs, who has been at the vanguard of the battle against the COVID-19 epidemic, was voted to the WHO presidency in 2017, becoming the first African person to lead the world’s leading public health organization.
The next Director-General will be appointed by democratic ballot at the 75th World Health Assembly, the institution’s yearly meeting of member countries, in May 2022, and his new 5-year tenure will commence in August. Austria, Bahrain, Barbados, Botswana, Cook Islands, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Oman, Portugal, Rwanda, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Tonga, and Trinidad and Tobago are among the nations that have nominated the 56-year-old.
The electoral system started in April when the WHO Secretariat asked Member Countries to offer nominations for candidates for the appointment of Director-General via a circular mail delivered by the WHO Secretariat. The proposal submission date was September 23, 2021. Following the conclusion of the year’s last WHO regional committee meeting, information on applicants, including Curriculum Vitae and other details about their credentials and experience as received from the Member States, will be released.
