It has been initiated by the UT Administration to engage a consultant to design an alternate route from Sector 48 to the international airport. UT Engineering Department officials stated that the consultant would perform a survey of the area and begin construction on an alternate route to the airport from the Sector 48 side in order to shorten the distance between the airport and the city. The agency will be required to provide its report within 15 days.
A report on an alternate shorter route from Chandigarh to the airport had been requested by UT Adviser Dharam Pal, who had recently instructed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the UT Chief Engineer to prepare a report on the matter.
Air India will start flying between Delhi and Sydney on November 15th
Previously, the road distance between Tribune Chowk and the airport was 2.71 kilometers, but today travelers must travel an additional 14.5 kilometers to reach the airport via Mohali. An alternate route to the airport, which will make it easier and shorter for residents of Chandigarh and Haryana to reach the airport, has been requested by the public. Earlier this year, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs requested that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) work on a quicker route to the airport from Chandigarh on a priority basis in consultation with the relevant stakeholder organizations.
They noted that inhabitants of Chandigarh were experiencing unnecessary discomfort as a result of the existing route from Tribune Chowk to the airport, which necessitated them traveling a greater distance and spending more time in order to reach the airport.
